They may be "seconds" with a slightly smaller size or with strangely shaped stems, etc. Or they may not be. We grow 1000s of Salvia plants each year and sometimes we grow too many of a particular variety and we need the greenhouse space for other plants. They will have the same live delivery guarantee as our "normal" plants and they may not (or may...) be as "pretty." You have no choice of variety but each plant is individually marked. They may be different varieties or all the same. This Cheapo Combo is for the truly indescriminating aficionado who simply wants Salvia plants and doesn't give a damn about who found them or where they were found. The "Popular Combo" Pack: 4 live plants $55.00
This is a discount, combination pack of our 4 most popular strains of Salvia divinorum: (1) each of the "Hofmann & Wasson" "Blosser" "Luna" and "Cerro Quemado" strains. They are available in limited quantities and there are possible delays in shipment. These varieties will probably not be of interest to the general population, but they could have value to the plant breeder and the collector. Our source for the following 4 strains and two of the previous (Luna and Cerro Quemado) was Daniel Siebert, www.sagewisdom.org. SALVIA DIVINORUM - NEW:

The plants that we ship are between 5" and 10" tall, depending on the season and other factors beyond our control (it is impossible to maintain a set size in all seasons for plants that grow as quickly as these). The cuttings are well-rooted in 2.25" pots. Read the sections on CULTIVATION and PEST CONTROL below while waiting for your plants to arrive... All strains require the same basic care and are very similar in all characteristics.

There are approximately 900 feedback responses:
Some are good and some are bad.Salvia divinorum plants and extracts are completely legal in most of the US at this time (there are local ordinances against it in some communities in MO), but there is a concerted effort being waged by the DEA and FDA to illegalize it. The DEA has petitioned Congress in mid-June, 2003, to schedule Salvia divinorum. Salvia divinorum may well be illegal in the United States sometime soon. Currently, it is legal to ship to every other country in the world except Australia, South Korea and Denmark, Italy, where Salvia has been made illegal.. Used by shamans of the Mazatec Indians for telepathy and clairvoyant insights, Salvia divinorum was first brought to the attention of Western science in the autumn of 1962 by R. Gordon Wasson and Albert Hofmann following an expedition to Oaxaca, Mexico to discover the identity of this mythological plant. It was presented to them by the same curandera, Maria Sabina, who introduced Hofmann to Psilocybe mushrooms on a previous expedition.
DESCRIPTIONSalvia divinorum, a member of the mint family, is a tropical shrub with square, winged stems and large (to 8” long) fragile, dark green, almost irridescent leaves. The plant can grow (under ideal conditions) to approximately 8’ tall. In the winter months it has hairy, white, ¾” long flowers within purple bracts and calyxes. In Northern climates, it rarely flowers and even more rarely sets viable seed. Flowering is initiated in the fall when there are fewer than 11 hours of daylight. The whole plant has a light, earthy scent and a bitter taste. The psychoactive ingredient is Salvinorin A, C23H28O8, the most potent naturally occurring psychedelic discovered to date.
Mazatec shamans traditionally prepared a tea of 50-60 dried leaves. They would also chew 6-18 fresh leaves in the mouth while not swallowing the resulting juice, allowing it to be absorbed through the mouth’s mucous membranes. Either fresh or reconstituted dried leaves may be used for either method of ingestion.
TRADITIONAL USE
This plant can be a very strong psychotropic and should be used A modern means of utilizing this plant is smoking the dried leaves, a much more effective method now preferred by some Western enthusiasts. It doesn’t work if smoked like tobacco. It needs very high temperatures to vaporize the active ingredient, Salvinorin A.
(if at all)
with caution if one is unfamiliar with psychoactive substances.
Grow in as large a pot as practical (3-10 gallons is best for mature growth), filled with a loose, moist, very rich soil. The small shipping pots can be replaced immediately upon arrival with a 4" to 1 gallon pot. In all but the mildest climates (where temperatures never drop below freezing), winter indoors.
CULTIVATIONThe plant will freeze to the roots with any frost but is root-hardy to about 25°. It likes warm, 75-95° summer temperatures, with the condition that the humidity is high. Mist in hot weather or keep in a high-humidity (above 50%) environment such as a greenhouse.
During the growing season (usually May to October), feed often (every two weeks) with a dilute high-nitrogen fertilizer. Inorganic farmers prefer mixtures such as MiracleGro (the acid variety is best). Organic farmers prefer high-humus, very well composted manure.
Do not fertilize during the semi-dormant winter months. Begin light fertilization in early spring and gradually increase until early fall. Distorted leaves and weak, leggy growth are evidence of over fertilization. Yellowing leaves will usually indicate too little food available for the plant to use. This can either be from too little food in the soil or from a soil that is too cold or from some type of root damage usually caused by the soil drying out.Yellow leaves can also be a sign of too little light or too low temperature.
Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Never allow it to dry out. If the soil ever becomes dry, the roots can become damaged and the plant will wilt or lose leaves. Make sure that the container and the potting soil that you use for the plant have good drainage. Never use ordinary garden soil or dirt or fresh compost when growing Salvia in pots. Always use a commercial potting soil. Doing so will avoid problems with drainage and parasites.
If you have problems with wilting or the edges of the leaves turning brown and dry, a simple humidity tent will often temporarily provide relief for the plants.
The plant sunburns easily (grow in heavy shade from spring to fall) and it is the favorite food of many garden pests such as slugs, spider mites, aphids and white flies.Control these pests by organic methods if you plan to use the leaves of the Divine Sage since many popular commercial chemical controls leave residues of questionable value.
PEST CONTROLSymptoms of slug infestation are leaves with holes or eaten edges. These creatures are easy to find and destroy early in the morning, before sunrise or in the evening after sunset.
Symptoms of spider mite infection include yellowing leaves with small (visible with magnification) spider-like creatures usually on the undersides of the leaves. Webs appear on upper leaves in heavy infestations. Control is maintained by keeping the humidity high and by spraying the undersides of plant leaves (especially the upper leaves) with water. Some people say control is hopeless, but we have had good results with neem oil spray.
Aphids are small greenish bugs usually ‘farmed’ by ants for the nectar they secrete. They suck the plants’ juices and produce distorted and yellowed leaves. They can be controlled with a soap/pyrethrum spray.
White flies are small, white, and pinhead sized and are easily seen on the undersides of leaves. Their larva leave many small spots on the leaves. Sticky yellow white fly traps and pyrethrum sprays help with control.

"Just when the flowers of sage begin to open
there is in their cups a fragrant resin,
highly flavoured, balmy, delicate and to the taste
one of the most delicious cordials that can be thought,
warm and aromatic sage properly prepared
will retard the rapid progress of decay that treads the heels so fast in the later years of life, will relieve the faintness, strengthen that weakness
and prevent that sad depression of spirits. . .
will prevent the hands from trembling
and the eyes from dimness and make the lamp of life,
so long as nature lets it burn, burn brightly."
